The Power of Music is a publication from Resonate Music School & Studio in Edmonton. It exists to think carefully about music in public.

Essays here are written carefully and slowly. Where research is mixed or contested, we say so. Where a story is moving, we let the story carry the piece and the science arrives when the story needs it.

How to read this

Essays are organized into six categories: The Listening Mind, The Early Years, What Practice Builds, Music Across Cultures, Music in Hard Places, and Practice Notes. Each one is a different way of thinking about what music does in people’s lives.

Sources

Every named claim is checked against its primary source. Where a study is well-supported, we name the researchers and the year. Where the evidence is mixed or modest, we name that just as plainly.
